My Work
Overview
My Work is your central hub for tracking and managing all assigned work — both production tasks and lab tasks — from a single page. It combines the traditional production workstation view with a modern task management interface, giving technicians, managers, and support staff a unified place to see everything on their plate.
Access to this page requires the View permission under Cases → My Work.
Page Layout
The My Work page is organized into two sections: a sidebar on the left for navigation and a main content area on the right that displays tasks.
Sidebar
The sidebar provides three types of views:
My Tasks — shows all lab tasks assigned to you that are currently open. This is your personal task list. Production tasks do not appear here — they are only visible under workstation views.
Mentions — shows lab tasks where you have been @mentioned in a comment, even if the task is not assigned to you. This helps you stay on top of discussions and requests that involve you without requiring explicit assignment.
Workstations — lists every workstation you are assigned to (or all workstations if you have the "View all workstations" permission). Selecting a workstation shows both production tasks and lab tasks associated with that workstation. Hovering over a workstation in the sidebar displays a capacity popover showing each user's used and total capacity for the day.
The active view is reflected in the URL, so you can bookmark or share a direct link to a specific workstation or view.
Table and Kanban Views
The main content area supports two view modes, toggled using the floating pill at the bottom left of the page.
Table View
The table view displays tasks in a sortable, paginated list. Each row shows:
Icon — visual indicator of the task type (template icon for lab tasks, wrench for production tasks)
Priority — star indicator for prioritized lab tasks
Title — task title (lab tasks) or case number + step name (production tasks)
State — current state badge with click-to-change dropdown (lab tasks) or start/finish controls (production tasks)
Assigned To — user assignment with inline combobox for reassignment (lab tasks) or static display (production tasks)
SLA — live SLA countdown badge (lab tasks) or due date (production tasks)
Tags — color-coded tag badges (lab tasks only)
Created — relative timestamp
Clicking a row opens the task detail sheet — a full task sheet for lab tasks, or a case production task sheet for production tasks.
Kanban View
The kanban view displays tasks as draggable cards organized into columns. It supports two grouping modes and a task type filter.
Task Type Filter — a segmented toggle at the top lets you switch between All, Lab Tasks, and Production. This filter is applied server-side, so switching types only fetches the relevant data. When set to Lab Tasks, the "By State" grouping becomes available.
Group by Assignee — columns represent users. Each column shows all tasks (both lab and production) assigned to that person. An Unassigned column appears when you have the "Read unassigned tasks" permission and are viewing a workstation (it is hidden on the My Tasks view and when the workstation uses automatic assignment). Drag a card between columns to reassign it.
Group by State — columns represent task states, ordered by category (Submitted → In Progress → Waiting on Customer → Resolved). This mode is only available when the task type filter is set to Lab Tasks, since production tasks do not have customizable states. Drag a card between columns to change its state. Columns that are not valid transitions for a task appear dimmed during drag.
Kanban Cards
Lab task cards show the task title, assignee, SLA badge, priority star, and tags. A three-dot menu provides quick actions for changing state and closing the task.
Production task cards show the case number, task name, patient name, and status badge (Pending, In Progress, Done). A three-dot menu provides Start, Finish, and Cancel actions.
Production Tasks vs Lab Tasks
Both task types appear together on the My Work page, but they behave differently.
| Production Tasks | Lab Tasks |
Lifecycle | Fixed: Not Started → In Progress → Finished | Customizable states across four categories |
Appears on | My Tasks, Mentions, and Workstation views | My Tasks, Mentions, and Workstation views |
Assignment | User assignment via combobox or kanban drag | User assignment via combobox or kanban drag |
Grouping | By Assignee only | By Assignee or By State |
SLA | No SLA — uses case due date | Full SLA support with live countdown |
Tags | Not supported | Color-coded tags |
Comments | Internal comments with @mentions and file attachments | Internal comments with @mentions and file attachments |
Custom fields | Custom fields defined at the production task template level | Custom attributes defined at the task template level |
Tied to | A specific case and line item | Optionally tied to a case (exception tasks) or standalone |
Barcode Scanning
For high-volume production environments, the My Work page supports barcode scanning to start and finish tasks in bulk without clicking through individual cards.
When viewing a workstation, two buttons appear in the top toolbar:
Scan In — opens a scanning dialog where you scan case or task barcodes to start tasks. Each scan matches the barcode to a production task on the current workstation and marks it as started. Multiple tasks can be scanned in rapid succession.
Scan Out — opens a scanning dialog where you scan barcodes to finish tasks. Each scan matches the barcode to a started production task on the current workstation and marks it as complete. The task then moves to the next workstation in the workflow.
Scanning is only available on workstation views (not on My Tasks or Mentions) and only applies to production tasks.
Filtering
The top toolbar provides filtering options that vary based on the active view:
Search — text search across task titles, case numbers, and patient names. Results are filtered server-side with debounced input.
Actual / Upcoming toggle — available on workstation views only. "Actual" shows tasks that are ready to work on (all predecessor steps are complete). "Upcoming" shows all tasks including those still waiting on prior steps. Use Upcoming to see what's coming down the pipeline and plan ahead, or to correct an administrative mistake in a previous production step.
Permissions
My Work has six permissions under Cases → My Work that control visibility and actions:
Permission | Description |
View | Base permission to access the My Work page and see your own assigned tasks |
View all workstations | See tasks across all workstations, not just the ones you're assigned to |
Read tasks of others | See tasks assigned to other users, not just your own |
Assign tasks to others | Assign or reassign tasks to other users |
Self-assign tasks | Claim unassigned tasks from the task pool |
Read unassigned tasks | See the unassigned tasks section or kanban column |
How Permissions Interact with Workstation Assignment Type
The workstation's assignment type affects which permissions are honored:
Automatic — self-assignment and unassigned task visibility are disabled regardless of permissions, since the system handles assignment
Manual Push — a manager assigns tasks to technicians; self-assignment is disabled
Manual Pull — technicians claim their own tasks; assigning to others is disabled
Custom — all permissions are respected as configured
